Vitro’s Roberto Cabrera Honored as Glass Person of the Year 2026 by Phoenix Award Committee

PITTSBURGH, April 23, 2026 – Roberto Cabrera, Vice President of Engineering and Technology at Vitro Architectural Glass, has been named as the Phoenix Award's Glass Person of the Year, becoming the 54th recipient of this prestigious honor.
The Phoenix Award Committee is made up of individuals from supplier companies serving the glass industry and is responsible for selecting the Phoenix Award recipient each year. The award honors a living individual who has made significant, lasting contributions to the glass industry.
Cabrera was recognized for his outstanding achievements and leadership in manufacturing quality, engineering innovation and sustainability across the flat glass industry.

An inventor or co‑inventor of 12 granted U.S. patents, Cabrera has delivered significant advancements in product, process and equipment development, reinforcing Vitro’s role as a technology leader within the architectural glass sector. His technical achievements were previously recognized with the Hotbels BTU Award in 2016.
Beyond his technical contributions, Cabrera has demonstrated exceptional industry leadership. Since 2021, he has served on the Glass Manufacturing Industry Council (GMIC) Board, representing Vitro and helping guide collaboration across the sector.
He is widely respected for his leadership, professionalism and commitment to sharing knowledge, and he remains actively engaged in advancing best practices, cross‑industry collaboration and supporting continued innovation and sustainability in glass manufacturing.
