Vitro Architectural Glass Earns Two Innovation Awards from Architectural Products

PITTSBURGH, December 19, 2023 – For the second consecutive year, Vitro Architectural Glass (formerly PPG Glass) products – VacuMax™ Vacuum Insulating Glass (VIG) and Solarvolt™ Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) glass – were selected as Product Innovation Award winners by Architectural Products magazine.

In its 13th year, the Product Innovation Awards (PIA) highlight innovative solutions that help architects create beautiful, unique, and high-performance projects. With judging and evaluation of products and systems by a distinguished panel of designers and architects skilled in product evaluation, the PIA program awards manufacturers based on form, functionality, or sustainability. There was a record-breaking number of submissions in 2023.

Vitro’s re-engineered VacuMax™ VIG is a highly versatile product whose slim construction and light weight allow it to be incorporated into virtually any traditional glazing system. VacuMax™ VIG significantly improves thermal insulation performance up to 3-5 times better than conventional insulating glass units at 1/3 of the overall thickness. It is also up to 20 times better insulating than single-pane glass. VacuMax™ VIG enables improvements in building energy performance and a reduction in operational carbon.

VacuMax™ VIG has an exceptionally long life compared to other VIG products and delivers superior resistance against thermal expansion or contraction caused by extreme indoor/outdoor temperature differences. VacuMax™ VIG units also deliver increased acoustic performance for dramatic noise dampening and reduced center of glass condensation at temperatures as low as -58 °F. The Solarvolt™ BIPV glass system doubles as a building component to enhance sustainability and energy efficiency in commercial buildings, delivering high performance, aesthetics and CO2-free power generation while replacing conventional building materials.

Available for classic glass façades, vision glazing, and opacified spandrel glass, the Solarvolt™ BIPV glass system can also be seamlessly integrated with railings, balconies, overhead glazing, and skylights.
